Second thoughts

It is probably down there at the bottom of his bag. Maybe he pulls it out from time to time, dusts it off, rehearses it in front of the bathroom mirror. But until Phil Mickelson has actually earned the right to deliver his US Open winner's speech, all we know is what he thinks about finishing second.

Exploring the endless options available in bathroom mirrors, establishing the look one is striving to achieve whether traditional or contemporary, bathroom mirrors have transitioned through the modern ages. Victorian style bathrooms were often built with heavy layers of dark wood types from boxed in baths, wood framed mirror to wainscoting. Todays traditional styles of bathroom furnishings are sporting similar design concepts, but with a much softer look. Bathroom mirrors are lightly capped with various wood textures and tones and wood bath panels are added to step up the design elements as an extension of tradition. Arched mirrors alone or with the addition of wall sconces for extra lighting can also create a Victorian feel to your bathroom setting. To begin with, back in 1999, he seemed almost curious to know if he could replicate what was then his best finish in any Major. By 2004, there was a note of resignation in his voice. By 2008, the year both he and Colin Montgomerie blew themselves out with double- bogey finishes, the frustration was boiling over. By 2009, golf's arch rationalist spoke as if dark forces had been stacked against him.2004. Shinnecock Hills. Lost to Retief Goosen by one shot. "Oh, you know, I'm not disappointed by the way I played at all. I just would have liked to have won, that's all. But I can't worry about the fact that somebody played better than me."We could go on. Mickelson's failure to clinch his national championship has spawned theories by the dozen - half of them concentrating on the contents of his golf bag, half on the contents of his head. But the only one that holds any water, and is actually supported by what he has said, is that he has succumbed to the pressure that has increased with every US Open disappointment. What we know already, though, is that one of Mickelson's more irritating distractions has already been removed from the equation. Woods might have won the 2008 US Open at Torrey Pines on a broken leg, but he decided last week that his knackered knee wasn't up to the task and announced his withdrawal from Congressional.2009. Bethpage Black. Lost to Lucas Glover by two shots. "I feel different this time. I don't know where to go with this because I want to win this tournament badly. This is now my fifth second."Selecting the appropriate wall mirror is also determined not only by the size of your bathroom, but also on the size of the bathroom vanity, bathroom mirrors should never extend beyond the vanity as it will create an unbalanced look. The ideal wall mirror for bathrooms with double basins, are rectangular wall-to-wall mirrors to disseminate adequate lighting exposing bathroom accessories as well as the other bathroom furniture, increasing the presence of the bathroom. It is a matter of debate whether Woods would have been among the contenders - that 2008 win was his last Major, but his performance at this year's Masters suggests he can still pull rabbits from hats - but it will do Mickelson no harm to know his nemesis is not involved.1999. Pinehurst. Lost to Payne Stewart by one shot. "It will be interesting to see if I'm able to break through when I get in this situation again. And it will be interesting to see how long it takes me to get back in this situation."Yet in most eyes Mickelson is still joint-favourite, a status he shares with Lee Westwood and Luke Donald. Westwood has a reasonable record in the event, with two top-10 finishes, but Donald has risen to No 1 in the world despite a dismal record in a tournament that many consider to be the most searching all-round examination the sport offers. Donald's best US Open finish was a tie for 12th in 2006; over the past four years he has missed the cut twice.SUPERBLY SLIM, THESE SCANDINAVIAN-STYLE WATCHES ARE SLEEK AND STYLISHHas Mickelson got that game? As well as changing his equipment for the tournament, the world No 5 has also adjusted his routine, breaking with his customary pre-Major pattern of playing in a regular tour event in order to have more practice time at Congressional. Ideal preparation, or yet more pressure on himself? We will have to wait to find out.FEEL SAFE IN DIMLY LIT AREASTHE INCREDIBLE BATTERYPOWERED CALLUS REMOVER THAT TRANSFORMS HARD, ROUGH SKIN INTO SILKY SMOOTH FEETIn the sense that he can go from brilliance to buffoonery in the blink of an eye, Mickelson's results have been notoriously wayward from one week to the next. Yet there are signs that he may finally have stepped off the roller- coaster, for his form this season has been uncharacteristically consistent. He has not missed a cut on the PGA Tour this year, and his last competitive round was a fine 67 at The Memorial.Mickelson's track record at the US Open offers a cautionary warning against the glib assumption that there's always a first time. Yet if Donald's performances at previous US Opens suggests the bookmakers are being particularly miserly with their odds, there is no question he is the man in form right now. He backed up his recent victory at the BMW PGA Championship with a tie for seventh at the Memorial Tournament in Ohio last weekend - a result that took his remarkable run of top-10 finishes into double figures. At only 7mm thick, these watches are so slim, you will hardly know you are wearing one.Contemporary bathroom mirrorsStylishly designed, their slim cases feature a simple and easy to read face with second hand. "So I've played some of my better golf in the US Open. I just need a few breaks here and there, or maybe a few less mistakes here or there, to be able to come out on top."
